Crohn's nutrition includes several especially beneficial foods, known as super foods. These foods are generally very low in texture density, and very high in nutrient density. This, in turn, will let the body obtain vital vitamins without working too hard, causing pain, or encouraging excessive bathroom usages. So, the goals of the Crohn's diet are met through these prime examples of foods-less pain and bathroom time.
One of these super foods has a complex reasoning behind it, and it is jell-o. Jell-o is an exception to the high nutrient rule, but is still a Crohn's diet super food thanks to its very low textural density, meaning the stomach can easily digest its contents without being stressed and causing flare ups.
JELL-O
Note that emotional fitness is a crucial aspect of the Crohn's diet, and sweets are sometimes a necessity to keep up a happy mood. Otherwise, with no sweets at all except from the occasional repetitive fruits, stress will form and any and all benefits from the discipline on the Crohn's disease diet will be lost since the emotional health is damaged, which, in turn, will encourage flare ups.
Jell-o contains sugars and is processed, however. Sugars are bad because they feed the bad bacteria in the gut; when there is excessive bad bacteria in the GI tract, pain and excessive bathroom usage will turn out, the exact opposite goals of the Crohn's diet. Processed foods contain indirect simple sugars. These sugars, no matter how indirect, exist, and will, again, further feed the bad bacteria.
So why is jell-o acceptable? Because the levels of sugar are so low that they will do more good emotionally than bad physically. In fact, the sugars in jell-o are so low that virtually no one would blame the slightly sweet food for a major flare up, painful episode. Also, the low texture density is a large factor as well-jell-o is almost a liquid, the lowest level of texture density possible.
The reason other semi-liquid sweets are not considered is because of other poisonous qualities besides sugar or processed contents such foods contain. One example is ice cream. Turning into a liquid from simply being in contact with a warm body, ice cream is no super food in the world of Crohn's nutrition thanks to the dairy in it, which does encourage flare ups and a further imbalance of bad bacteria in the gut to cause pain and bathroom usage in an excessive amount.
In other words, as a health food, jell-o is considered as a loser, but as junk food, jell-o is no hero.
